Philadelphia Union not done making big moves yet

But the interesting bit of news surrounds Le Toux. Sources tell the Daily News that the Frenchman rejected his chance at English Premier League club Bolton and left the trial early to return home.

This news appears to supplant the words of Bolton manager Owen Coyle, who recently told reporters in England: “Sébastien came in for a couple of days, and to be fair to him he hadn’t trained for four or five weeks. He did fine and that’s where it is. We’d have probably needed a longer look.”

————————

With all that said, we hear that Le Toux is still being shopped, and perhaps to an MLS bidder. Daily Mirror writer Alan Nixon, who kept eye on Le Toux’s trial spell, posted on his Twitter site Monday evening that the Vancouver Whitecaps have showed interest in the 28-year-old Frenchman.

————————

Now for the big twist in Le Toux and Mondragón potentially leaving Philadelphia. The Daily News has learned that those moves could free up enough space for the Union to officially announce that they have have purchased - or at least intend to officially purchase - the contract rights of midfielder Roger Torres.

Mondragón departure thrusts MacMath into spotlight

The Zac MacMath era appears to have begun sooner than anyone anticipated.

With Monday’s news that 2011 starting goalkeeper and captain Faryd Mondragón is returning to Deportivo Cali to finish his career where it began, the door has been opened for Philadelphia’s 2011 first-round draft pick (fifth overall).

Fortunately for Philadelphia, MacMath was forced into a starting role for seven starts last season and passed the test with flying colors. That experience, a result of Mondragón’s broken finger, should pay dividends for the Union in 2012.

Report: Union sending Mondragón to Colombia

Fresh off a proposed deal that could send leading scorer Sebastien Le Toux to the Bolton Wanderers of the Barclay’s Premier League, the Union are reportedly in late-stage talks with Deportivo Cali to move All-Star goaltender Faryd Mondragon back to his home country of Colombia, to the league in which he began his career – Liga Postobon.

The Union are expected to make an official comment later on Monday.

Mondragón hurts finger, MacMath makes first appearance

Backup Zac MacMath, making his MLS debut, didn’t allow a goal in the second half, but Mondragón’s injury could be a serious detriment in Philly’s playoff chase, which took a hit with the defeat.

A couple of reports indicated Mondragón broke his finger, but Union manager Peter Nowak did not offer any specifics about the injury after the game.

“We’ll see,” Nowak said. “I don’t know. I’m not a doctor. We’ll go back home and see what his status will be.”

Faryd Mondragón may or may not have just spoiled that Juan Pablo Ángel is coming to the Union. No official word either way yet but I’ll update if anything is announced.

Mondragón honored by All-Star start, but it's back to work

“The most difficult part of the league is now going to start,” Mondragón said. “I think day by day, game by game, we have been improving on all sides. We’re playing very good and disciplined but also playing very nice soccer and scoring goals. Now that we’re No. 1, we are the target of everyone. Everyone wants to beat you.”
